July 8th: Famous Japanese confectionery "Wagashi" Demo & Lecture

Demo & Lecture conducted by:
Three Wagashi masters from Matsue City of the Shimane Prefecture, Japan
One of the experts is the President of Saiundo Association in Matsue, which is famous for its excellent collection of manufactured wagashi throughout Japan
About Wagashi:
Typically made from nature-based (mainly plant) ingredients
An example is sakura-mochi, a rice-cake tinted with pink colour like a cherry blossom
Wagashi is typically linked to the Japanese Tea Ceremony, for which Matsue City is well-known as the centre of tea culture
The history of Wagashi goes back to the Edo period (1600-1868) when the tea ceremony became popular

In the Wagashi Demonstration and Lecture, the experts will give a 30-minute lecture and a one-hour demonstration on two kinds of wagashi, which participants can later sample
